The most commonly known species under the Coffea genus are Arabica and Robusta. However, MY LIBERICA aims to introduce the third species, Liberica to the world.
Liberica originated in Liberia, West Africa. However, today it is mostly produced and consumed in Southeast Asia, namely in Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. The world production of Liberica is only 1%, and it was first introduced to Malaysia to solve a coffee shortage. It later became the main species used for traditional coffee. MY LIBERICA, established in 2011, was the first producer in Malaysia to specialise in processing Liberica coffees.
MY LIBERICA has 50 acres (20 hectares) of carefully cultivated coffee in Kulai, Johor. To improve the coffee quality and be environmentally responsible, they use coffee waste to produce organic fertiliser at their farm. MY LIBERICA also began investing in a new processing plant in 2014, which became the first speciality coffee processing facility dedicated to the Liberica species in Malaysia. The facility aimed to improve coffee flavours and safe consumption through meticulous and different processing methodologies.
In 2020, MY LIBERICA caught the attention of 2015 World Barista Champion Sasa Sestic and his team at ONA Coffee, and together they developed a new Anaerobic Process to further improve the quality of Liberica. Since then, MY LIBERICA’s coffees have been showcased at multiple coffee competitions at the world level.
We are excited to feature the efforts of MY LIBERICA’s dedication to continuous improvement of the Liberica species. This anaerobic natural processed Liberica coffee stands out to us for its high sweetness, creamy body and distinct flavor characteristics.
